Do Al-Anon Meetings Result in Gossip and Criticism?

No. Al-Anon is a self-help program based on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions originated by AA. There is complete anonymity of all member and special emphasis is placed on not gossiping or criticizing the problem drinker or nay member of the group, as well as not repeating anything said during the meetings.

How can Al-Anon Help Me?

Al-Anon gives you the comforting assurance that no situation is too difficult and no unhappiness too great to overcome. It gives you a better perspective on your involvement with alcoholic/chemically dependency problems and makes you willing to do something constructive and interesting with your life.

What is Alcoholism/Chemical Dependency?

It is a progressive addiction with identifiable and recognizable symptoms. It affects the mind and body of the drinker/user who can rarely overcome this compulsion without help.

What if I am Not Sure if my Spouse is an Alcoholic/Chemically Dependent Person and Not Just a Heavy Drinker/User?

If any amount of alcohol/drugs is creating problems in your life, Al-Anon is for you.

How Can I Stop my Spouse’s Drinking/Using?

This is not the purpose of Al-Anon. Your spouse is not subject to your control. An alcoholic/chemically dependent person will stop drinking/using only when he deeply desires to. By changing your attitudes towards your problems and acquiring a deeper understanding al Alcoholism/Chemical Dependency, it might help your spouse seek help far sober than he/she otherwise may have done.
