With three outpatient locations across Southern Idaho, The Walker Center offers an array of different services for both adults, adolescents, and their families.

The Walker Center Outpatient Treatment Program is offered in our Boise, Gooding and Twin Falls, Idaho. The outpatient program provides clients with the tools to structure a substance-free lifestyle and the support to maintain abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Treatment is individualized for each client based on the client's initial assessment and ongoing progress in treatment as assessed by the ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria for level of care.

Assessment — The assessment is the beginning of the treatment process consisting of a comprehensive evaluation to include: demographic information, presenting problem, use history including withdrawal potential and acute intoxication, biomedical conditions, emotional and behavioral conditions, readiness to change, relapse potential, family history and recovery environment, collateral reports, strengths and needs, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. This information drives the treatment process including the development of a Problem List and Treatment Plan. Specific barriers to treatment are identified at this time including, but not limited to: lack of transportation, childcare, housing, and/or employment. Coordination with referral sources such as doctors, employers, probation officers/court/judges, and family members is achieved so appropriate actions can be taken to reduce these barriers.

DUI Evaluations — DUI evaluations are offered at all locations by appointment for those people ordered by the legal system to have an evaluation following pleading guilty to, or being found guilty of a violation to Idaho Code pertaining to Driving Under the Influence.

Intensive Outpatient Program — The Intensive Outpatient program emphasizes abstinence, relapse prevention, disease model education, familiarization with 12-Step programs, family codependency counseling, problem solving skills, stress management and family communication skills.

Early Recovery Treatment — The Early Recovery program is designed for clients who are in the early stages of change and those who are not yet ready to commit to full recovery. The treatment emphasizes abstinence, relapse prevention, disease model education, familiarization with 12-Step programs, family codependency counseling, problem solving skills, stress management and family communication skills.

Relapse Prevention Treatment — Relapse Prevention groups are designed to deliver information, support and skill development to clients as they proceed through recovery. Clients will learn to address their specific situations that have relapse potential.

Spanish Specific Group Treatment — This bilingual treatment group is offered only at our outpatient treatment program in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) Treatment — MRT is a systematic, step-by-step treatment strategy designed to enhance self-image, promote growth of a positive, productive identity and facilitate the development of higher stages of moral reasoning. MRT has been determined to significantly raise moral reasoning levels, life purpose, and other positive personality variables. The Walker Center uses the How to Escape Your Prison, MRT workbook by Little and Robinson.

Cognitive Behavioral Group Treatment — The Cognitive Self Change (CSC) model is designed to teach the client to change the patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving which lead to rule breaking or criminal behaviors. CSC emphasizes the principles of choice, self risk management and personal accountability.

Individual Treatment — The Walker Center currently incorporates individual sessions into the treatment plan to address issues specific to the client's needs. If there are cultural, language, developmental or other treatment needs such as mental health or physical health concerns, these can be addressed in individual sessions. It is to be noted that the Walker Center philosophy, as evidenced in best practice, is that the majority of treatment occurs in group.

Early Education/Intervention Services — The Walker Center offers services for both adults and adolescents who show evidence of problems and risk factors that appear to be related to substance use. The goal is to assist the person in gaining an understanding of how the current use of alcohol or other drugs may be harmful or impair the ability to meet responsibilities and achieve personal goals. These services may also be beneficial to someone who lives in an environment where the use of substance is condoned and needs to learn to set healthier boundaries.

"I'm so thankful for the Walker Center. It has changed my life. My dad's treatment has really made me meet who my dad really is."
