Here are some answers to commonly asked questions. If you have any questions not answered here feel free to contact Vicky Roper. Q: What is a typical day like at the Walker Center?
A: The following is a typical Wednesday schedule at the Walker Center:

Note: If it is Family Program Week, Wednesday's activities are replaced by the Family Program Schedule.
Q: What is expected of residents at the Walker Center?
A: The following expectations apply to all residents regarding their personal effects and behavior.
- Please bring insurance and prescription cards, or money for medications. Also bring any medications you are taking. Casual clothing for a week is suggested. Laundry facilities and soap are provided.
- Phone use is limited to emergency situations during the first week of treatment, with a given time period each day for phone calls thereafter.
- Residents are asked to leave televisions, cell phones and boom-boxes at home.
- Residents may bring a small clock radio and play it at respectful levels.
- The program involves a fair amount of reading and, as a result, residents are asked to leave other reading materials at home.
- The expectation is that business affairs will be taken care of prior to treatment and after treatment.
- Residents are cautioned that the length of stay is determined by their progress and the treatment team's assessment of that progress. As a result, lengths of stay vary from 21 to 28 days with a 21 day suggested minimum.
- In all cases individual resident need is the primary consideration in Walker Center Staff decisions.
Q: What do residents need to bring to the Walker Center?
A: The following is the Walker Center's "Bring" list:
- Your own pillow for comfort, your own bedspread or comforter if you desire
- A week's casual clothing
- Sweats or other exercise clothing
- Swimsuit
- Cold weather gear (coat, jacket, hat, gloves)
- Tennis shoes
- Personal grooming toiletries
- Electric razor
- Money for juice and pop machine, stamps, etc.
- Laundry facility is available at no charge, with soap available.
- Please bring all medications: prescriptions and over the counter such as aspirin, Advil, antacids, etc. Have all prescriptions filled before you come.
Sorry, but we are unable to cash checks. Please bring enough cash to pay for any medications you may need after you are admitted and anything you may need from town.
Q: Is there anything that should not be brought to the Walker Center?
A: Here's what not to bring:
- Cassette or CD Players
- Tapes or CDs
- Books or Magazines
- Cell Phones
Valuables can be locked up, but it is best if you leave valuables home that you will not need, such as extra credit cards or jewlery.
Q: What are the credentials of the Walker Center medical and counseling staff?
A: Our Physician, Douglas O. Smith, M.D., has worked with the Walker Center for 25 years. He is a certified addictionologist, as well as a specialist in internal medicine. Dr. Smith and the staff at the Walker Center bring years of addictions treatment experience and specialized education and training to the recovery process.
